Baseball.

An American vice-consul in Russia forwarded this message received from the States, 3 November 1917:

FOLLOWING RECEIVED FOR WILLIAM COCHRAN REDCROSS FROM NEWYORK QUOTE ANDERSON ARRIVED WHITESOX WON [the World Series] ALL WELL HOME ALLIES MAKING FINE PROGRESS HORN FAMILY ALL WELL COCHRAN UNQUOTE

Source: National Archives at College Park, RG 84, Consular Posts, Archangel, vol. 13.

As for me, I'm still messed up, sleep-wise. Slept 4 hours Wednesday afternoon, then 1 hour Thursday night. This is not helpful.

My guys at the CRB organized a baseball team and I have pictures, too! Seems even humanitarians need to blow off some steam now and again.....
