Here's what I aim to be doing the first night of the NxNE festival. I'll let you know about Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday over the following days. My schedule for those days will change as I cross some bands off my list, get recommendations, and etc. This year I've got a pass so I want to take in as much of the festival as possible, including LOTS of music---including free concerts that you can go see even if you don't want to pay cover or get a wristband---and some of the conference. No movies for me except the City Sonic films.
WEDNESDAY (17 June)
[Still Life Still (in-store) @ Fred Perry (964 Queen St. West), 6pm, free.]
Ohbijou (in-store) @ Soundscapes, 7pm, free.
NXNE Opening Gala @ The Berkeley Church, 7pm (invite only).
City Sonic film showings / J. J. Ipsen @ The Drake, 9:30pm.
The D'Urbervilles @ The Drake Hotel (Underground), 10:30pm.
Lioness @ The Drake Hotel (Underground), 11:30pm.
Woodhands @ The Drake Hotel (Underground), 12:30am.
Leif Vollebekk @ Dakota Tavern, 2am.
[The Beauties @ Dakota Tavern, 3am.]
I'm missing out on the HUGE Arts & Crafts extravaganza and book launch at the Courthouse. It will be awesome, I'm sure, but the Drake event is guaranteedfuntimesdanceparty for me. It'll be a good way to start off the festival. And get in some interviews on this little digital audio recorder thing Tyler lent me for the duration of the festival.
If you want to come to the Drake, cover if $5 before 11pm; $10 after. A steal, but get there early because the Underground is pretty small and these bands will draw, even on a Wednesday.
Here's what my blogger friends are doing during the festival: Bob, Frank, and Pete.
