Indie Music 77 (22-26 Apr 2009).

Welcome to my weekly roundup of inexpensive indie(ish) musical happenings in downtown Toronto, all for $10 or less. If I'm missing something you think I should list, or you have any comments, let me know. I star (*) shows that most interest me.

The weekly listings are shorter these weeks, as you may have noticed. I'm doing this out of a time-constraints, but it means a less intimidating list for most of you (and I know a less useful one for others). Anyways, change is good, right? And, in this case, necessary. So here goes. To make up for it, though, I've got some freebie music downloads mixed in with the listings. Enjoy!

Last week I caught Woodhands at the Phoenix. See my review for more on that show. On Sunday I heard some of Hamilton Trading Co.'s new album, and it sounds fantastic! I can't wait to get my hands (digital or actual) on the whole thing. After enjoying a bit of the Strumbella's set---a solid vocal- and string-heavy roots 7-piece band---I headed over to Rancho Relaxo where I was treated to the lovely Christina Maria, pop songstress Wendy Leung, a fantastic Boston band called The Main Drag, and the impressive debut of l'Affumer.
